URBAN LANDSCAPE AND POPULAR ARCHITECTURE: THE CASE OF ‘GRAVATÁ DO IBIAPINA’ DISTRICT – PE (BRASIL)
Abstract
The present work has as object of study the conformation of the urban landscape, from examples in popular architecture in the mesoregion ‘agreste’ of the state of Pernambuco (Brazil), having as case study the urban ensemble formed by the streets of Commercio and Martins da Cunha of the district of Gravatá do Ibiapina, municipality of Taquaritinga do Norte. Its analysis is justified by the importance of recognizing the patrimony of the region under study, especially in relation to non-erudite architecture, which despite constituting a large part of the built space of Brazilian cities, is little considered in academic studies. For this, the research was developed in two stages: initially, the theoretical basis, to understand the urban landscape and popular architecture; then, the case under study was analyzed, where popular architecture composes an urban landscape full of meanings.
