Keywords: Church, Clergy, Holy Office

Abstract

The Portuguese Inquisition, to be present in the various overseas territories, creates an extensive network of agents who, after going through the investigation of their lives, would be invested with the power to be an "alter ego" of it. This article is anchored in the trajectory of a group of individuals who have in common to be clerics and servants of the Holy Office in the context of the colonial Amazon. Starting from the trajectories, we will highlight their profiles and modes of selection, as well as their performance in these two institutions - Church and Inquisition.
