TEACHING CAREER AND SPACES OF POWER: A WRITING OF THE SELF
Abstract
This work aims to reflect on the gender inequalities present in teaching careers and in spaces of power in general, with a specific focus on the Federal University of Campina Grande (UFCG). We start from the premise that the working environment at universities does not differ substantially from other institutions with regard to the reproduction of regimes of truth that, historically, have shaped the social roles of women and men. Contrary to the ideal imagined for universities - which should be avant-garde spaces for questioning and forming critical and civic consciousness, in search of justice and social equality - universities have reproduced social inequalities, including those related to gender. Women face the same practices and logics of inequality and hierarchization in classrooms and work environments, aiming to subjugate them. The reflection on the practices of subjectivity and subjectivation in teaching careers and in spaces of power at UFCG will be carried out through a self-narrative text, interviews with women teachers of exact sciences and engineering courses, data and statistics from governmental and non-governmental entities , as well as analysis of scientific articles, dissertations and theses related to the objectives of this analysis. We hope to contribute to expanding and deepening knowledge about gender issues, the presence of women in science, teaching careers and participation in spaces of power within university institutions.
