REPRESENTATIONS OF GYPSIES IN THE SUDOESTE DE GOIÁS FROM AN ETHNOGRAPHIC PERSPECTIVE: PROSPECTS AND RESEARCH POSSIBILITIES
Abstract
This article aims to disseminate parts of the results of a research undertaken on the presence of Roma people in the State of Goiás, through an ethnographic perspective, based on what is reported on the world wide web. The purpose was to reflect on the relationship between publications on the Internet that somehow mention Gypsies and the construction of the identity of this ethnic group. In addition, it is a theoretical-methodological reflection on how to do empirical research in Law and in the Social and Human Sciences, through an ethnographic approach and a dense description of the representations about gypsies from Southwest Goiás present on the Internet, which reinforce aspects rooted in the social imaginary that associate them, predominantly, with violence and criminality, and simultaneously with mysticism and spirituality. It concludes by pointing out other possibilities for doing field work and developing research taking into account the object of study
