QUILOMBOS FROM YESTERDAY TO TODAY: REVISITING THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE RUFINOS QUILOMBOLA COMMUNITY

Abstract

The quilombola movement resisted to the times of slavery and has been reinventing itself every day. The demands claimed by this population are extensive, which has been changing with each new situation. The fighting spirity for the emmancipation of blacks in Brazil and in the world persists in this population. This paper is a part of the master’s research developed through the PostGraduation Program at UEPB with women of the community of the remnants of the quilombolas, the Rufinos. Our purpose in this article is to bring the historical and political trajectory of that community, presenting the elements that changed this space into a territory of struggle and conquest of rights. In addition, we also present the main elements that characterize The Rufinos, in order to demarcate the rich wisdom, ancestry and production of culture existing in the community.
